Kristen Ingebretson has loved books since she learned to read, so it was a dream come true to start working in publishing soon after college. Since 2005, she has been designing and art directing books of all genres, from self-help to fiction, cookbooks to memoir, and everything in between. She was lucky enough to get 13 years of experience at HarperCollins before going out on her own as a freelance designer. She now prefers working directly with authors and small teams to develop creative solutions that package the book in an intriguing, marketable way. Kristen lives on a mountain outside Chattanooga, TN, with her husband and 3 kids.

Misty is a professional word nerd with nearly twenty years of publishing experience. She considers herself lucky to have known since she was a kid that wordcraft is her calling. From early childhood writing poems about rainbows and butterflies, through many years of climbing the corporate ladder and learning the traditional publishing ropes at HarperCollins, to this stage of her journey working on the content she loves most, she has always known—words are the path to connection. When she's not making books, she's playing board games with friends, keeping her boy child and her dog child out of trouble, belting made-up songs with her mom, writing poetry, reading tarot, watching sports, or playing video games. She is grateful every day for the opportunity to help others say what they want to say well, to be a part of crafting content that brings people together and leaves the world better than it was before.

Frequently asked questions

What services does Gatsby House offer?

Gatsby House offers a comprehensive range of services, including expert ghostwriting, professional editing, high-end publishing and distribution, and targeted marketing & PR. From writing and formatting your manuscript to managing copyright and distribution, we are an end-to-end solution that guarantees exquisite results.

What is hybrid publishing, and how does it differ from traditional and self-publishing?

Traditional publishing and hybrid publishing offer two distinct paths to publication. In traditional publishing, publishers cover all costs and retain creative control while offering authors modest royalties of 5-15%. Hybrid publishing blends elements of traditional and self-publishing: authors invest financially but maintain creative control and exponentially higher royalties (40-85%). While hybrid publishers provide professional services like editing and distribution, authors keep their rights and enjoy a faster path to publication compared to the highly selective traditional route.

What if I already have a manuscript?

If you're an author with a completed manuscript seeking professional editing, formatting, publishing, distribution, and exposure, we recommend our editing or rewriting services. This package is tailored to meet your manuscript’s specific needs, providing the exact level of editing needed to align your important book with bestsellers on the market today.

What’s the difference between writing and editing services?

Gatsby House ghostwriting services bring a manuscript to life from ideation, building it word-by-word. Editing services are specifically designed for clients who have an existing manuscript and are looking to refine and elevate it.

Do I need marketing services for my book?

Whether provided by Gatsby House or handled by the author independently, marketing services are essential for your book's success and can significantly enhance your visibility. Effective marketing can increase your chances of attracting attention and standing out in a highly-competitive market.

How much do your ghostwriting and publishing services cost and do you offer payment plans?

At Gatsby House, we offer premium publishing services through transparent, customized investment packages. Your personalized quote details the precise allocation of resources across your project. We structure payments in comfortable monthly installments over 6-12 months, tailored to project scope and desired timeline. Contact us for a custom quote today.

How long does the process take from manuscript to finished book?

While traditional publishers can take up to two years from manuscript to market, Gatsby House delivers your book to readers far faster. Our most comprehensive package, which includes ghostwriting, marketing, PR, and publishing spans 12 months, while publishing only projects can take as few as 3 months. We proudly accelerate your path to publication without sacrificing excellence.

Do you accept all genres and types of books?

Gatsby House specializes in narrative non-fiction, personal development, and memoir. Our expertise lies in transforming powerful stories of resilience and healing into compelling narratives—we specialize in working with authors who navigate themes of transformation and triumph over trauma. We currently accept only a handful of fictional books annually. We plan to roll out a full fiction program in early 2026.

If I work with a ghostwriter, can I still be involved in the writing process?

At Gatsby House, we value collaboration. In the ghostwriting process, although your dedicated writer is producing drafts, your participation is vital to help us capture your voice and accurately convey your ideas. However, there is not a set list of requirements for your involvement, other than approving pages that are sent to you. We encourage you to be as involved as you like.
